What the eight categories measure

Robots.txt

Whether the citation crawlers behind ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity search are let in — and whether the permission is explicit or just a wildcard default.

llms.txt

The site brief AI engines look for first: title, summary, sections, links, depth, and a full-text companion file.

Schema

JSON-LD structured data — how much of it exists, how rich each block is, and whether FAQ, Article, Organization and WebSite types are in place.

Meta tags

Title, description, canonical and Open Graph — plus a check that no X-Robots-Tag header quietly says noindex.

Content

Whether the page body gives AI something quotable: an H1, concrete numbers, links, enough words, heading structure, lists or tables, and the key point up front.

Signals

The small technical signals: page language, an RSS/Atom feed, and a freshness marker that tells AI how current the page is.

AI discovery

Machine-readable discovery files — /.well-known/ai.txt and the /ai/*.json set (summary, faq, service).

Brand & entity

Whether AI can pin your content to one entity: a consistent brand name and description, knowledge-graph links, about/contact pages, and authority signals.

Score bands:86–100 Excellent68–85 Good36–67 Foundation0–35 CriticalNegative signals (popups, missing authors, overclaiming headlines, boilerplate) cost a further 1–5 points.

What this score is — and is not

This is a hygiene check: it measures AI crawler reachability and structured-data foundations. It does not predict, and is not equal to, AI mention or citation rates. A high score means the door is open and the foundations are in place — whether AI engines actually mention you depends on content, authority and competition, and can only be measured by continuous sampling.

Questions

Is the GEO Health Check free?
Yes. Paste any public website URL and the check runs free — no sign-up, no install, nothing to configure.
What does the score measure?
It is a hygiene score out of 100 across eight categories: robots.txt access for AI crawlers, llms.txt, JSON-LD schema, meta tags, content structure, technical signals, AI discovery files, and brand/entity consistency — minus a penalty for negative signals such as popup patterns or missing authors. The weights are the ones used by the geo-optimizer audit engine behind the fx-geo monitoring system.
Does a high score mean ChatGPT will cite my site?
No — and any tool that promises that is guessing. This check measures whether AI crawlers can get in and whether your pages carry the structured foundations AI engines quote from. Actual mentions and citations depend on content, authority and competition, and can only be measured by repeatedly sampling the AI engines themselves.
How does the check work?
The service fetches your homepage, robots.txt, llms.txt and the AI discovery files, then reads them as text — titles, meta tags, JSON-LD blocks, headings and visible text. Your site's code is never executed, and nothing is stored after the report is generated.
Why did my site score lower than expected?
The most common reasons: no llms.txt, citation crawlers allowed only by a wildcard rule, thin JSON-LD with only a name and URL, or no AI discovery files. The findings list under your report ranks every lost point with the concrete fix.
How do I know whether AI engines actually mention me?
That takes continuous sampling: asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and others the questions your customers ask, over and over, and recording who gets mentioned and cited. That is what the GEO monitoring system at maoxunxing.com/geo/ does for the sites it tracks.
